Ofcom Licensing Details

The Office of Communications (Ofcom) is the UK’s regulatory authority for communication services, ensuring proper use of radio frequencies and minimising interference.

Why Licensing Matters

  • Licensing ensures your equipment operates legally and complies with UK regulations.
  • Proper licenses protect devices from interference and unauthorised usage on shared frequencies.
  • While the UK General License offers basic access to radio frequencies, it comes with several drawbacks:
    • Shared Frequencies – everyone has access to the same frequencies.  This lack of exclusivity increases the likelihood of crowded channels
    • Interference Issues - With multiple users operating on the same frequencies, you are more likely to experience radio interference and “noise.”
    • No Management Control - The frequencies are unmanaged, meaning no priority or protections are in place for individual users

Why Choose Exclusive Licensed Channels?

To avoid the limitations of the UK General License, CST offers exclusive, Ofcom-licensed channels. This ensures:

  • Clear, interference-free communication
  • Greater reliability and control
  • Improved operational efficiency
  • Protects you from the risk of interference or “radio noise” caused by other companies sharing the same frequencies, which often occurs with general UK channels

Make the switch to licensed frequencies for dependable, professional communication.

The Importance of a Valid Ofcom License

Not having a valid Ofcom license can have serious consequences—both financially and legally.

Did You Know?
Unauthorised use of radio equipment is a criminal offence and can result in:

  • Fines of up to £5,000
  • Imprisonment of up to 2 years

Ofcom regularly conducts inspections of premises where two-way radios are in operation to ensure compliance.
